I first got into searching out the arches after reading a visitor’s guide for Aztec, NM – my home town. I was (and still am) a member of the board of directors of the Aztec Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center and decided to see what type of propaganda we were telling our visitors. It was at this time that I noticed an article dealing with “Aztec’s Golden Arches”. Well, I knew where the hamburger joint was and didn’t see why we needed to tell the visitors. After flipping to the article I found out that it dealt with natural geologic window formations. I was hooked.

The article gave directions to a few of the arches in the area and my newlywed wife and I went hunting. Some of the directions were okay, some not so good. So this search became sort of a scavenger hunt of window rocks. I decided to go to the source of this information.

The visitor guide used an article from the January 2001 issue of the New Mexico magazine that was written by Clay Martin. Now, I didn’t go to Mr. Martin; but I did order the back issue of the magazine. There were some pictures and a little more information in that article which helped greatly. Now I had some names for some of the arches I found. And my interest was piqued. There were pictures of arches with names, but no directions. So off we went again.

This screensaver is a compilation of over 40 high resolution pictures of what we found. I hope you enjoy these arches.
